The most basic, most important, underlying fact of life
The most basic, most important, underlying fact of life for
most people everywhere (no matter what country or part of the
world they live in): the need to make a living, the need for
money, the necessity of somehow acquiring the essentials of
food, shelter and clothing. The necessity of making a living,
of somehow acquiring the essentials of life, shapes and defines
life for most people the world over. It determines where they
live, the conditions under which they live, and a great many
other details of their lives. It often determines whether they
live in the country or city (people go where the jobs are).
Where they live determines the environment in which their
children grow up. The particular job that they find for
supporting themselves determines how they spend a large portion
of their time each day (a daily routine), how well their
individual talents, abilities and strengths are utilized in
this life, the degree of personal fulfillment they get from
life, etc. The need to eat, to have income, makes people do
many things that they may not like to do. It makes people
spend hours creeping to and from work in slow-moving rush hour
traffic; it makes thieves of some people, prostitutes of others
(in more than one sense of the word). It makes people cheat,
harm, hurt, and even kill others. It does all kinds of things
to people.
