The honest love, affection, and loyalty of your mate --- the most important thing in life

 
 
   What is the most important thing in life?  What do I want from 
   life?  What is the source of the greatest happiness and 
   satisfaction in life?  These are questions I was asking myself 
   when I was a young man just after I got married.  As I 
   reflected over these questions I said "The most important thing 
   in life, the source of the greatest happiness and satisfaction, 
   is the honest love, affection and loyalty of one's mate. There 
   is little in life that is more important than the honest love 
   and affection of a close companion."  Then I asked "How does 
   one achieve the honest love and affection of someone?"  The 
   answer was twofold:  1. Merit their respect and regard  2. 
   Treat them well ---  with warmth, consideration and love.
