Ebb and flow of interacting forces in western society

   Ebb and flow, flux and reflux of multitudes of interacting 
   forces, of popular ideas, conceptions and values;  one person 
   thinks pornography is good and works for it while another 
   thinks it is bad and works against it; one person is religious 
   and another is an atheist;  one person views extramarital sex 
   lightly while another regards it as a serious matter; one 
   person takes lying lightly while another takes it seriously;  
   one person believes in thrift and frugality while another 
   throws his money away with abandon.  For every idea, conception 
   and value there is its opposite.  Society is a gigantic, 
   complicated hodgepodge of myriads of opposing, interacting, 
   balancing values, attitudes, and outlooks.  At one time one set 
   of values and attitudes have the upper hand and at another time 
   another.  The scene is in a constant state of flux, always 
   changing.  What are the forces that affect and influence this 
   everchanging balance?  Television, newspapers, magazines, 
   schools, churches, government, etc..  Any force that molds or 
   influences thinking, attitudes and values.
