The importance of detail

One thing that has impressed itself on me over the years is the importance of detail in life. The importance of paying attention to detail. And detail often presents itself in the form of basic assumptions. So often, all lies in the details and basic assumptions. People often propose great and wonderful sounding ideas — but they don’t work. And the reason they don’t lies in the details. If a basic assumption is wrong, all may fall apart. I first learned the importance of detail when I was a young boy studying algebra, geometry, etc. in high school. In mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, etc. one must be attentive to detail. These areas are very detail oriented. All technology is very detail oriented.

In almost everything we do in life detail is important. Life is full of decisions. Big decisions and little decisions. And making good decisions requires thinking, questioning, examining. It involves attention to detail. If you are going to buy, let us say, a home or automobile, you need to ask yourself a lot of questions. To buy wisely you need to think, question, examine, inquire, get information. You want to know all the pros and cons and a lot of detail before making a decision. Making good decisions requires some work. It involves thinking and attention to detail.

If you are going to attempt some Do-It-Yourself home improvement project you need to learn a lot and ask yourself a lot of questions about details. The details can be very important. You need to read, investigate, ask questions, get information, think. Neglecting a detail may have very serious consequences. Some wrong assumption can be disastrous.

There are a lot of people who don’t like to be bothered with details. They are lazy. Too lazy to think. Too lazy to ask questions. It is the energetic, hard working person who is willing to think, ask questions, do whatever Reason calls for, who does well in life.
