Source of Baptist error

A very central, strategic pillar of Baptist belief is their doctrine of eternal security (“once saved, always saved”). It recently struck me that it is this single belief that is the big villain in their belief system. It is this assumption that causes all of the mischief. This is the great fallacy of their dogma. It is the main source of their self-deception. If you remove this column, the entire building falls. If you delete that belief from their dogma their entire outlook and mentality disintegrates and disappears, you arrive at a very different mentality — all of the smugness, certainty, and simplicity of their outlook disappears. For many years I was unhappy with the Baptists, critical of them. My intuition was against them but I couldn’t quite pinpoint where they were in error. I now think that the entire problem lies mainly in this one simple false assumption. It is definitely in conflict with scripture. See Scriptures contradicting the Baptist doctrine of Eternal Security (i.e. “once saved, always saved”). Another problem with them is their strong emphasis that salvation is by faith and not by works — to the point of neglecting practice. At bottom Christianity is about obedience, practice.

No single act or ritual can guarantee the salvation of one’s soul. That is a big Baptist self-deception. Christianity is all about piety and Goodness. It is all about what you are. See

New Testament scriptures on the importance of obedience to God

True Christianity is about Fear of God, Obedience, Practice

If one were to ask me if I was sure I was saved my answer would be, “Yes. I am sure I am saved”. However, the reason I am sure I am saved is not because at one time I made a profession of faith (i.e. at one time I “gave my heart to Jesus”, as the Baptists would say) but rather because I know that I am serious about God and about following in his way. I know my heart and know I am serious. If, on the other hand, I felt I had strayed away from God’s way, I would not be so sure.
