The great importance of treating all people politely
There are some fundamental truths in life that most of us have never been told. We have to discover them for ourselves. And many people go their entire lives and never do discover these basic truths. One of these truths is the great importance of treating all people politely. Even if you don’t like a person, treat him politely. Of course you don’t have to treat him politely. You can be just as rude as you want, you can treat him just as badly as you want. But if you are wise, you will treat him politely. If you don’t like someone for some reason, simply stay away from him, avoid him. If you disagree with someone silence is a great answer. If you wish to give your opinion, state your case with politeness and don’t get into heated argument. Don’t be drawn into anger or heated words. This can be difficult if deeply held beliefs are involved and differences are stark.
There are some people who do habitually treat people they don’t like rudely. One kind of person who does this is the proud, arrogant person who feels he is superior to everyone else. He goes around stepping arrogantly on everyone’s toes and making enemies everywhere. If you disagree with him on something he just instinctively starts calling you names, abusing you, piling ridicule on you. That is not a wise way to live life. Such a person is probably very unhappy inside. He is very sensitive to criticism, angry, and every slight from others makes him more angry. His rude conduct toward others is hurting himself more than it is anyone else.
The happy person is the humble person. The humble person has a calm, quiet mind. The mind of the arrogant is always in turmoil. It is the humble, upright person who gains understanding and sees life with clarity.
Some people are seething cauldrons of strong, evil feelings: cauldrons of such things as arrogance, high pride, anger, hatred, envy, jealousy, lust, etc. — feelings impairing their ability to think sensibly and rationally. Other people are humble people with very quiet minds and quiet spirits.
