Emergency food storage
Suppose one is interested in storing food as a precaution for emergencies or some national calamity. What advise could I give?
My advice would be:
1. Purchase a supply of white 5 gallon plastic pails made of food-grade plastic along with air-tight lids. It is important that they be made of food-grade plastic because many white 5 gallon pails that can be purchased are made of materials containing chemicals that can leech into food.
2. Buy white rice (I recommend parboiled or converted rice), beans, spaghetti, macaroni and oatmeal and store it in the buckets. These foods are inexpensive and last a long time in storage.
It is important that the foods be kept in sealed buckets or else vermin will get into them.
The above method is very inexpensive. Many people spend a lot of money on emergency food supplies.
