On Wisdom

The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil
   is understanding. Job 28:28

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the
knowledge of the holy is understanding. Prov 9:10

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools
despise wisdom and instruction. Prov 1:7

Thinking is the essence of wisdom.

                                            Persian Proverb

Time ripens all things: no man is born wise.

Books give not wisdom where was none before.

Wisdom is ofttimes nearer when we stoop than when we soar.

A good book is the precious life-blood of a master spirit.

Days should speak and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

                                                      Job 32:7

The man of wisdom is the man of years.

                                                  Edward Young

Wisdom less shudders at a fool than wit.

                                                  Edward Young

Despise not the discourse of the wise, but acquaint thyself
   with their proverbs.

If thou seest a man of understanding, get thee betimes unto
him, and let thy foot wear the steps of his door.

Wisdom is neither inheritance nor legacy.

The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom.

                                                  Prov. 10:31

I have seen wicked men and fools, a great many of both, and I
believe they get paid in the end; but the fools first.

                                          Robert Lewis Stevenson

Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father.

                                                Prov 29:3

Virtue, not rolling suns, the mind matures.

                                                     Edward Young

He who lives well sees afar off.

                                          Spanish Proverb

Gray hair is a sign of age, not of wisdom.
                                              Greek Proverb

A good understanding have all they that keep the commandments
   of God.

The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names.
