On Wishing
Wishes never filled the bag.
Wishing is an expedient to the poor.
Wishers and Woulders are never good householders.
I never fared worse than when I wished for my supper.
A man must keep his mouth open a long while before a roast
pigeon flies into it.
With wishing comes grieving.
Many of our wishes have been and will be thwarted.
Our very wishes (when realized) give us not our wish.
What ardently we wish we soon believe.
Wish chastely and love dearly.
Alas! what a number of desires have come to nothing!
