The Book of Proverbs

The book of Proverbs is certainly one of my favorite books of
the Bible. I also like Psalms and a lot of the Epistles but I
do especially like Proverbs. In it you see set forth my own
outlooks and beliefs, perhaps better than anywhere else. It
emphasizes the importance to a person of a personal quest for
understanding and spiritual knowledge --- and the idea that the
fear of God and upright, righteous, Godly living is the
foundation and essence of true understanding and knowledge.
When I was a teenager in high school I determined within my
heart that the quest for understanding was to be one of the
main objects of my life and it has always been so. From
childhood the book of Proverbs has been one of my favorite
books. In essence the book of Proverbs says: "Pursue
understanding and spiritual truth. Fear the Lord, and depart
from evil --- this is the whole essence of wisdom,
understanding and true spiritual knowledge." Who in this world
has been a role model or ideal for me? No one, living or dead
--- I don't have an especially high regard for most people.
But the just, upright, righteous person spoken of in Proverbs
(and in other books of the Bible) has been an ideal for me to
follow. That is the kind of person it is my wish to be like.
What does it mean to me to be a Christian? It is to be that
just, upright, righteous person who fears God, loves God, and
   eschews evil.
