The invisible emotional bonds of marriage

Those invisible bonds that bind us, the husband and wife, who
have lived together for years. We see the weaknesses and
faults of our spouse. Little incidents here and there remind
us of the flaws in his character. We may be disgusted by his
laziness, his slovenliness, his selfish little ways, his lack
of character at times. He may aggravate us, grieve us, hurt
us. Yet we are powerfully and intricately bound to him
by innumerable cords of affection, familiarity, past
experiences, mutual memories and trust. We need him. We love
him. He may anger us, exasperate us, and embarrass us but we
still need him and love him. This is marriage. These are the
emotional bonds of marriage. Look well at the other person
before putting your head into the yoke with him. If he turns
out to be a real scoundrel you may pay well before getting out
   of the yoke.
