The most essential knowledge

   What is the most essential knowledge?

     1. reading, writing and arithmetic
     2. the art of getting along with people
     3. technical preparation for some trade, profession or craft

   Other kinds of knowledge have value, too.  Knowledge of 
   history, geography, science, literature and other subjects is 
   nice to have and gives a person a better understanding of his 
   world, but is not critical and essential in the way the above 
   are.
