On things like “sexting” and pornography

The Bible teaches that there are certain types of conduct that are wrong in the eyes of God, abhorrent to God, unacceptable to God. And it teaches that people who engage in these types of conduct will be punished in the end by damnation in an eternal hell. What are these types of conduct? Well, they include fornication, sexual promiscuity, adultery and homosexuality. They also include things like unchastity, impurity, uncleanness. Consider the following scripture:

______________________________________________________________________________

Eph 5:3-12 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.

Col 3:5-8 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

I Cor 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

I Pet 1:13-16 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

James 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. {7}Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. {8} Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Note the strength of the above language. The Bible does not say, “Things like fornication, adultery, homosexuality and moral impurity are wrong and if you are a Christian you ought not engage in them.” Its language is far stronger. It says that those people who engage in them will be damned to an eternal hell. That is very, very severe punishment. The severity of that punishment shows the seriousness with which God views the behavior. The strength of the above statements shows the kind of moral foundation that underlies real, true Christianity. They show the strength of its moral outlooks. Early Christianity in no way tolerated immorality. It was completely taboo. From these statements we know how the early apostles and, by implication, Jesus Christ himself, felt about immorality.

God will not accept uncleanness, unchastity! Chastity, moral purity, virtue and goodness are requirements for being a Christian. The immoral, impure, unchaste will go to hell. Be not deceived! Being a Christian is about living an upright, moral, chaste life.

There are many people today who say they are Christians, view themselves as Christians, who are dabbling in things such as “sexting” and pornography. Who are they kidding?! They are certainly not fooling God!

There is a remarkable lack of fear of God in this country. People have no fear of hell. They have no fear of God. They just do whatever they wish. How could any person who actually believed in a hell not fear it? They don’t believe in it! Their eyes have been blinded by Satan!

I ask a question. According to a 2014 WIN/Gallop survey, 82% of the population of the nation of Colombia in South America regards itself as religious. Yet 74% of the births in Colombia are illegitimate (and if 74% of births are illegitimate, probably, because of contraceptives, etc., a far larger percentage of the population than that engages in illicit sex). Similar statistics apply to the most of the countries of Latin America. How can this be? How can people regard themselves as religious (and as Christians), yet have no morals? What does Christianity mean to them? What constitutes Christianity for them? Much praying to the saints and the Virgin, all kinds of religious parades and festivities, beautiful churches, lovely church services, many religious rites, and no morality. I have known a lot of Latins and I believe that a large percentage of them just have no concept of morality. The moral standard of the Bible is an alien concept for them. That is my impression of most of them. But we need not restrict ourselves to Latin America. Let us consider Christian Europe. How many people in Christian Europe live by the kind of Christian moral standard that we find in the above passages? My impression is that very few do. My impression has long been that most Europeans are far more devoid of morals than Americans. The illegitimate birth rates for most European countries confirms this impression. I think America has long had the strongest Christian foundation of all the countries of the world. Sadly, America has followed Europe and Latin America into moral degeneracy. I think there are still a few real Christians left in America — but very few. Maybe about 1% of the population. That might be an optimistic estimate. For the most part, the entire West has now abandoned Christianity. Most of the people who do regard themselves as Christians are deluding themselves. They are actually following some apostate, fake form of Christianity. Few have the real thing.

Modern technology, modern inventions. Television, the cell phone, the internet. They have a lot to do with the moral collapse of the West. Like guns or knives, many of our modern inventions can be used for good purposes or for bad. Many modern inventions serve Satan very well. Satan has used televison to destroy America’s moral foundations. And he has used the cell phone and the internet. Many modern inventions facilitate sin, make sin easy. With the cell phone came the capability for “sexting”. With the internet came the ability to access the most lurid of pornography in the privacy of one’s bedroom with a few strokes on a keypad. To be a Christian in these modern times you have to be serious about being one. It is not as easy as just staying clear of alcohol and drugs and bars. You have to be able to resist that momentary impulse to bring up some pornography on the internet. But if you are really serous about following in God’s way, that is not a problem. You just make it a rule never to do it. If you don’t do it the first time, there will be no second time. You have to know how to make rules for yourself and abide by them.

There might be some people who would say, “Being a real Christian would be just too hard. I could never do it.” Well, a human being is capable of climbing the highest mountain if he wants to. What is required is the “want to”. He can do about what he wants. God will help him who wants to.

Perhaps the hardest thing about being a Christian in this modern world is walking a solitary road, walking in one direction while the entire world around you is walking in the other direction, ignoring all the lying voices of the world about you, ignoring all the pronouncements of all this world’s authorities, and trusting in the words and teachings of the Bible. One needs strong faith to do that. Satan owns this world. His lies are everywhere.
