Jesus: quotes

Jesus walked this earth wielding great supernatural power: healing
the sick, the blind, the deaf; casting out demons, raising the dead,
performing astounding miracles. People everywhere were impressed
by him, believing in him, following him. The Jewish leaders were
afraid of him, afraid of his influence and power with the
common people, afraid of losing their own power. And they
rejected him, rejected his claims, and finally crucified him.
Just exactly what did Jesus teach? What did he claim for
himself? He claimed that he was that messiah that was promised
in Jewish scripture. He claimed to be the Son of God, sent
down to earth by God, for the purpose of becoming that supreme
sacrifice for sin. His claims are truly astounding. It is
understandable how the Jewish leaders might reject a man who
claimed to be of divine nature, indeed God himself. They felt
it was blasphemy for a man to make himself equal to God, indeed
to claim to be God himself. The following are some quotes that
give insight into just what Jesus claimed:

I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk
in darkness, but have the light of life. John 8:12

You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I
am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die
in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will
die in your sins. John 8:23-24

If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you
shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
                                                 John 8:31-32

Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall
   never see death. John 8:51

Jesus to the Jewish leaders: "If God were your Father, you
would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor
have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not
understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My
word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your
father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning,
and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in
him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources,
for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the
truth, you do not believe Me." John 8:42-45

If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who
believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart
will flow rivers of living water. John 7:37-38

My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. John 7:16

Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food
which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will
give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him."
                                           John 6:27

I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger,
and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who
comes to Me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down
from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who
sent Me. This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of
all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise
it up at the last day. And this is the will of Him who sent
Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have
everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, "I am the
bread which came down from heaven." And they said, "Is not this
Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How
is it then that He says, 'I have come down from heaven'?"

Jesus therefore answered and said to them, "Do not murmur among
yourselves. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me
draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written
in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.' Therefore
everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.
   Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God;
   He has seen the Father.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has
everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the
manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which
comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I
am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats
of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall
give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.
                                                John 6:35,37-51

Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of
Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does,
the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son,
and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show
Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the
Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son
gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but
has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor
the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor
the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. Most assuredly,
I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent
Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but
has passed from death into life. John 5:19-24

Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever
drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.
But the water that I shall give him will become in him a
fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
                                           John 4:14

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers
will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is
seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who
worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
                                           John 4:23-24

Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.

Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old?
Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"

Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is
born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of
God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which
is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to
you, You must be born again.'
                                                John 3:3-7

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so
must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the
world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes
in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did
not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that
the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is
not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned
already, because he has not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the
light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather
than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone
practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light,
lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth
comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that
they have been done in God. John 3:14-21

I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My
own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I
lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which
are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will
hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I
may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down
of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to
take it again. This command I have received from My Father.
                                                 John 10:14-18

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
   And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;
neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who
has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able
to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are
   one. John 10:27-30

I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me,
though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and
believes in Me shall never die.
                                           John 11:25-26

He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent
Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come as a
light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not
abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not
believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the
world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not
receive My words, has that which judges him the word that I
have spoken will judge him in the last day. For I have not
spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me
a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I
know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever
I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.
                                              John 12:44-50

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to
   the Father except through Me.

If you love Me, keep my commandments.

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is
he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My
Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.

If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will
love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word
which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.
                                  John 14:6, 15, 21, 23-24

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just
as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
                                           John 15:10
